School Is Out!!!

Hello Grade 3/4 class and families,

Just a quick note to say CONGRATULATIONS to everyone for completing the year successfully and THANK YOU to both the students and their families for making it a wonderful year for the teachers of this class!

It was a great pleasure to finish off the year with each of you, and to really notice the progress each of you have made since the beginning of the year as learners, as individuals and as a class as a whole.

Thank you to the families of this class for sharing your children with us, and for your support throughout the year.

On behalf of Mrs. Segedin, Mrs.Palmer and myself we wish each of you and your families a GREAT summer and I look forward to seeing your smiling faces back at Century on September 7th.  Those of you leaving Century this year, we wish you great success at your new schools and remember to always:
“Go through your days with respect to yourselves, each other and of course your teachers.  Remember, please, excuse me and pardon me are such important words to use” (Phillip Davies)

Sincerely,
Miss Gabroussenok

It’s June!!

What a nice surprise to hear from you again. Sounds like things are going well. I read your blogs to each other all the time and it seems as though many of you are using the class website. I’m glad to see it!! I loved the talent show last year and was sad that I missed it this year.  It was wonderful to hear so many of you were in it. I knew our class had lots of talent!!

I have to say I am very glad to hear about the read-a-thon!! I am so proud of you all on working so hard! Looks like it paid off with the pizza party. I hope you enjoyed it!

I’m sorry to say that I will not be back in Ottawa until July. I know summer vacation will have started by then. I was wondering if Miss G and ‘i might be able to skype while you are at school so maybe we could talk that way. We will have to look into it and closer to the end of school maybe we can have a class chat.

Jack is growing very quickly. This week he went to a cooking class and learned how to smile. He loves being held and I’m sure he would love to be passed around  to each of you as he enjoys snuggling with everyone!!  I’m running again which I enjoy and Jack rides in the Chariot (his stroller) while I push him around. He has it pretty good.

Well, thanks for writing. It is really nice to keep in touch.

Have a great week!!

Cheers,

Mrs. Segedin

What’s New in Room 16

Dear Mrs. Segedin,

We are happy to hear from you and to find out all the stuff that you and baby Jack are doing.

To answer your question about the talent show, quite a few of us made it into the talent show, including Masa, Rowan, Hiba, Ikram, Aneesa, Jhanvi, Thulasi and Haeyeon. Tomorrow (Thursday) we have a dress rehearsal and then we all get to perform in front of the school. On Friday is the Family Fun Night and we get to do the talent show again for the families who come that night. We wish that you and little Jack were here to see all our special talents!

The Read-a-thon is now over, and we have some great news for you. Our class came in 1st in the junior division and 2nd in the whole school. Mr. Aubrey’s class won overall, and we were only 16 chapters away from his class. We read 2, 283 chapters/books!! Our prize is a pizza party on Friday, and we are super happy and super proud! Looks like Mr.Davies WILL be losing his hair on Friday, since Century read well over the 15,000 books…we read 20, 000+!

The grade 4s had their Fractions Math test today, and we found it pretty easy. We hope that we did well on it. Wish us luck!!

We hope that Jack continues to enjoy his walks, his baths, and visits, and we are very impressed that he has already learned how to raise his hand when he wants to speak. Maybe he should come and give some of us a lesson on that!

Do you think it would be possible for you and Jack to come visit sometime before the end of the year?

We look forward to hearing more updates from you and Jack.

We miss you :(

Grade 3/4 Class & Miss G.

May is Here!

Hello Again,

Just wanted to write you a note to say how wonderful you all sound.  Well done to Rowan for her excellent effort in the speeches.  I”m really proud of you! Going against grade 5 and 6 students can be really challenging. I’m excited to here you are enjoying dance. The song “Everybody Dance Now!” is a really awesome tune and I can just imagine how great you must all look.  You should mention a song called Move This by the Techtronics to Ms. Palmer as I know it is a fun one to dance to as well.  Are there a lot of people in the class doing something for the talent show?  Last year there were many interesting acts and the show was a real hit. I am pretty amazed at how many chapters you have read.  Mr Davies better look out or he is going to have his head shaved again this year! Thanks for giving me the updates. I’m interested to hear what you are up to next.

Little Jack and I are doing well. Jack went on his first shopping trip this week. We went to a big mall in the city of Windsor and he got his picture taken of a passport so he can do some traveling in the summer time. He didn’t like having to pose but we managed to get a good shot of him. He is enjoying bath time now and is getting a sun tan on his daily walks with the dog and his mom. All the neighbours come out to see little Jack so we do a lot of visiting and not so much walking.  This week Jack will be 1 month old. He is really growing a lot and has already grown out of some clothes!! Hard to believe that one day he will be as big as you guys. He loves to stretch his arms and legs and is already learning how to raise his hand when he wants to speak.  Take a look at some new pictures of Jack.

News Flash: Field Trip for Grade 4′s

Hello Grade 3/4 families,

This coming Tuesday, April 27 many of Century’s students are going on a field trip to Merivale High School to see a play called “Once Upon a Matress”.  Originally, only the Grade 3′s from our class were going on the trip with Mr.Aubrey’s and Ms.Knelsen’s classes. However, we found out this afternoon that more seats became available at Merivale, and we jumped on the opportunity to reserve the seats for our Grade 4′s!!

I realize this is very short notice, however, I know that we can work together quickly to make it happen for our Grade 4′s :)

On MONDAY you will be getting a permission form to bring home and get signed. It NEEDS to come back on TUESDAY morning in order for you to join us on the field trip on Tuesday afternoon.

We will be leaving the school at approximately 11:15 a.m. and walking to Merivale High School. Several other Century classes will be going with us. We will be returning to the school at approximately 2:30 p.m. in time for buses.

Parent volunteers – if there are a couple of parents available to come with us on the trip, your presence and support would be much appreciated.  If you are interested/available to come with us, please let me know by posting a comment here or by e-mailing me at  olga.gabroussenok@ocdsb.ca

If you have any questions or concerns, please leave me a comment or e-mail me.  I will do my very best to answer quickly.

Thanking you in advance for your attention and support.  I look forward to a fun-filled field trip, and hope each of you are as well!!!
Miss Gabroussenok

What’s up in Room 16

Dear Mrs. Segedin,

Sorry to hear that you have been tired lately – it does sound like a HUGE job to be a new mom! We are happy to hear that Jack is doing well, and is making new friends already.
With Mrs.Palmer as our new gym teacher, we are having fun, and we are doing Dance right now. You should see how much fun we are having dancing in small groups with our friends! We wish you were here with us right now to see how well we are doing! The song that we’re dancing to is called “Everybody Dance Now!”.
For the speeches, as you know, Rowan was our classroom winner. The following week in the gym Rowan went up and delivered a fantastic speech and we were super proud of her as our classroom representative. There were a few other great speeches, and the winner was Lana from Mrs. Guthrie’s room.
Right now we are working on portfolios and they are going really well. The talent show is coming up as well. Some of our classmates are going to audition for the talent show, and we hope that they will make it!
The Read-a-thon is going well for our class. Can you believe it, this week we read over 800 chapters/books which will bring our total class number to over 1200 chapters/books!
For Earth day yesterday our whole school was out cleaning the yard, and now it’s super clean.
It is Dima’s birthday today, and she now has a new bike and a new basketball net. Aiden’s having his birthday party tomorrow, we’ll see what kind of fun stuff he gets for his birthday!
This is all for our updates for this week. Thank you for taking the time to write to us. We hope all is well with you and little Jack. Wish you were here.

The Segedin News

Hello again 3/4 class,
Things have been really busy this past week with Jack’s first doctors appointment, a visit to his grandma’s and grandpa’s house as well as many walks in his new stroller. Jack has already made a new friend at his grandma’s house and that is grandma’s dog “Summer.” Summer is very protective of Jack and stands guard at all times of the day. Jack likes to go on walks with the dog too. I am quite tired these days with waking up in the night to change Jack as well as feed him every 3-4 hours. What a big job this is.
I don’t have any good pictures this week of Jack but will either send some to Ms. G or will post them next week on the blog.
So what happened with the speeches? Have the Grade 3′s started story telling yet? I also wonder what is new at Century. It has only been 2 weeks since I left and I already miss everyone in the class. I hope you are all doing well and doing your best in all subject areas. The end of the year is getting closer and closer and soon it will be summer break. Don’t give up yet.

Baby Jack Has Arrived!

Hello Grade 3/4 Class,
Just read the blog and it looks like the first week back was full of surprises and changes but it seems like everything went smoothly. I had a big week as well with many changes for myself. Baby Jack made it to the world on Monday morning at 8:32am. He is as cute as a button and we think he is pretty awesome. Thanks for the messages on the blog as I miss all of you as well and look forward to hearing how the rest of the year is going. Congratulations to Rowan on being chosen as our class representative for speeches. I’m sure you will be great next week. Looking forward to hearing how that goes. Here are a couple of pictures of little Jack for you to see. Hope everyone is doing well. Keep in touch!

Mrs. Segedin

Hello Grade 3/4 Class

What a Week!

Wow, what a week for the Grade 3/4 class!
A new classroom teacher, a new gym teacher, public speaking, and so much more…
First of all, I would like to thank the 3/4′s for their patience and cooperation while we all get used to me as the new classroom teacher and Mrs.Palmer as our Phys Ed teacher, as well as to the slight changes in our usual routines. We had a good first week, and I have no doubt things will just keep getting better as time goes by.
Secondly, congratulations to all students for making the speeches presentations a great success in our class. A special salute goes to the grade 3 students, who were the only grade 3 students in our school to write and present speeches and who did a fantastic job…boy, will they be ready for grade 4 speeches next year!!

Finally, a very special salute goes to our class’s Grade 4 Public Speaking winner, Rowan Spirak, who will be going on to represent our class in the Public Speaking Finals in the gym this coming Thursday. CONGRATULATIONS Rowan – we look forward to hearing your speech on Thursday!

Wishing you all a great weekend, and look forward to the start of another great week on Monday.
Miss Gabroussenok
